IGN announced that a five-issue miniseries is set to release in the later of 2022. It is written by Ryan North (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) and drawn by Francesco Mobili (Daredevil). In this, Nick Fury and Maria Hill will deal with another Skrull Invasion with the mightiest heroes of the earth. They will be more prepared than the last time. Ryan claims that this title will not be Universe-Shattering like its predecessors and it will be more grounded and focused.
Ryan told, “It’s a sequel in that it takes place in the same Marvel Universe as the first one and everyone in the story remembers the first one happening”. “But it’s more of a standalone story because they’ve all learned from that adventure and aren’t interested in seeing it go the same way twice”. The original Secret Invasion ran for eight issues but it had many tie-ins and aftermath that covered the full story in a total of 100 issues. The main event was written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Leinil Francis Yu. They explored the fact that what happens if the heroes like Spider-Woman, Elektra, Hank Pym are replaced by Skrulls who retained their positions as beloved characters for years.
Ryan insists that it is not critical reading for the sequel but the fans will be able to find some callbacks if they embrace a re-read. “You don’t have to have any of the 2008 series to enjoy this, of course — the book tells you all you need to know — but if you have there are a few little callbacks you’ll catch”. Ryan also said that the story will primarily focus on Maria Hill but Nick Fury and Tony Stark’s Iron Man will be along for the ride as well as the 90’s team.
The sequel of Secret Invasion arrives right in the time for the MCU’s adaptation of the original story for Disney+. The actor Samuel Jackson is returning in the role of Nick Fury. Already, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop both had got miniseries before the release of their Disney+ shows. Other action heroes like Moon Knight and She-Hulk leading ongoing comic series ahead of their live-action debuts. It can be expected that the sequel of Secret Invasion and its live-action counterpart both will be released in the year 2022.
